6.NOTE - Please read the following note carefully:-
7.The applicant should be aware that whilst raising no objection to the proposal, the Environment Agency has commented that the proposed area for development lies within 250 metres of a former waste disposal site (WD589 at grid reference TG505143 which received solid construction waste between 11/9/89 and 31/3/93). Accordingly, the applicant is advised of the need for a ground investigation prior to the commencement of construction works in order to assess for the presence of landfill gas. There is a possibility of landfill gas (a mixture of methane and carbon dioxide which is potentially explosive and/or has asphyxiant properties) migrating from the landfill site into the strata beneath the proposed development. Simple "spike testing" between the proposed area for development and the former landfill site would be appropriate as a preliminary measure; however, if significant levels of flammable gas are detected, then further investigation should be undertaken. The applicant should be further aware that the responsibility for the safe development of the proposal rests with her. The comments and advice given above are made entirely without prejudice and without any liability, accepted, implied or given on behalf of the Environment Agency.
