| 1. | The Local Planning Authority considers that the Grey Alder tree is in good condition, is of sound health and vitality. The tree is highly visible and is an important contributor to the street-scene, particularly due to its attractive appearance and prominent position on the estate. It makes a valued contribution to the character and amenity of the area.
The supporting structural survey submitted with the application is not considered to contain sufficient evidence that the cause of the very slight damage identified is directly due to the tree. Further information is required in respect of soil investigation to demonstrate roots are apparent underneath the foundations.
Additionally, no arboricultural evidence has been submitted as part of the application to suggest that the tree is causing damage to the properties, or to determine whether any other means of tree works such as crown thinning/reduction or root barriers/root pruning could ameliorate the problem.
The application is hereby refused as the tree is of good form, contributes positively to public amenity, and provides a significant contribution to the amenity of the area. Without evidence to the contrary, it is considered that alternative works could be undertaken to reduce some of the concerns raised in the application. Removing the tree is therefore not justified. |
