1.	Policy HOU18 of the Great Yarmouth Borough Wide Local Plan states that extensions and alterations to dwellings will be permitted where the privacy and amenity of neighbours are adequately safeguarded. The extension or alteration must :- (a) Be in keeping with the design of the existing dwelling and the character of the area; (b) Not prejudice the amenities of a neighbouring dwelling ; and (c) not result in overdevelopment of the site's curtilage. The proposal is contrary to the objectives of policy HOU18 in that the The proposal to site an aviary, with its associated use, in a prominent location at the front of the dwelling, and poorly related to the neighbouring residential properties would result in an incongruous and jarring element within this otherwise orderly development to the detriment of the visual amenities of the area and is considered contrary to criteria (a) and (b) of the policy.
