1.Policy HOU18 of the Great Yarmouth Borough Wide Local Plan states that extensions and alterations to dwellings will be permitted where the privacy and amenity of neighbours are adequately safeguarded. The extension or alteration must :- (a) Be in keeping with the design of the existing dwelling and the character of the area, (b) Not prejudice the amenities of a neighbouring dwelling and (c) not result in overdevelopment of the site's curtilage. The proposal is contrary to the objectives of Policy HOU18 in that, the height and length of the two-storey part of the extension and its close proximity to the boundary would have an overbearing effect on the property to the north. The proposal would be an unneighbourly form of development by virtue of overshadowing and loss of visual amenity, contrary to criteria (a) and (b) of the Policy.
