1.	Policy HOU18 of the adopted Version of the Great Yarmouth Borough Wide Local Plan states that extensions and alterations to dwellings will be permitted where the privacy and amenity of neighbours are adequately safeguarded. The extension or alteration must :- (a) Be in keeping with the design of the existing dwelling and the character of the area; (b) Not prejudice the amenities of a neighbouring dwelling ; and (c) not result in overdevelopment of the site's curtilage. The proposal is contrary to the objectives of policy HOU18 in that by virtue of the size and siting of the two storey extension in close proximity to the boundary with the pasageway and adjoining property it would not be in keeping with the design and character of the area and would adversely affect the amenities of the adjoining dwelling by reason of overshadowing and overlooking.
